A wide range of aged white burgundy grand crus. Not as tightly curated line-up as usual but it wasn’t too hard to create some interesting flights out of the great bottles contributed by my friends.
Puligny Referts is one of those plots that yield wines that are never harsh and show like a hybrid between Puligny and Meursault. It took a serious sourcing effort to get together 16 producers of this plot and compare and contrast the different styles across a range of vintages.
This ultimate white burgundy tasting was in the works for quite some time. To allow for proper comparison only grower bottled Montrachets from 2004 were featured, many of which are made in microscopic quantities.
Tasting all 17 released vintages of Krug’s Clos du Mesnil in the presence of Krug's CEO Maggie Henríquez and friends was a life changing experience. Grateful and humbled to have been part of it, this is as good of a reason I can find to expand this blog beyond Burgundy.
This tasting featured thirteen different producers of Meursault Genevrières including Coche Dury and Comte Lafon from vintages ranging from 2007 until 2015.

The fourth grand vintage dinner was dedicated to 2010, a classic vintage with good ripeness and a brilliant nervy acidity. No grand crus but three different wines from Coche Dury added to the excitement.
A second look at the 2009 vintage with a comparison between the three main villages: Puligny, Meursault and Chassagne.
The third quarterly vintage tasting zoomed in on 2009, a vintage that often gets portrayed as early drinking with too low acidity to age.
The second quarterly vintage tasting was dedicated to the 2008 white burgundy vintage. Four flights of three wines each were organized by plot. A few grand crus were added as well for reference and enjoyment purposes.
The inaugural event of Puligny First was a vintage tasting dinner in which the 2007 white burgundy vintage featured. There were four flights each centered around a specific 1er cru vineyard with some additional wines in there for comparison.
A deep dive into the Corton Charlemagne grand cru, a white wine made in relatively large quantities but somehow does not seem to show up much in my usual drinking circles. Time for a comparison.
